Hawaiian Holdings: 4Q2020 bookings 'steadily improved as travellers gain confidence' in state reopen

4 November, 2020

Hawaiian Holdings SVP of revenue management and network planning Brent Overbeek said the carrier operated 18% of its North American schedule year-on-year in 3Q2020, and expects to reach approximately 54% of this schedule in Dec-2020 (Seeking Alpha, 27-Oct-2020). During the holiday peak, it expects its North American schedule will reach the range of 60%. Mr Overbeek stated: "We're encouraged with our inbound load factor from North America to Hawaii running at 57% in the first 10 days since we reopened the state. Bookings for the fourth quarter have steadily improved as travellers gain confidence in the state reopening". As regards local neighbour island traffic, performance was "negatively impacted by the reinstatement of the Neighbor Island quarantine", with load factors in the range of 40% prior to the quarantine and in the range of 20% afterwards, "despite a schedule that was more than 20% and 50% smaller respectively". Hawaiian Holdings does not expect to resume service to Australia and New Zealand in 2020, and expects it will operate approximately 5% to 10% of its international network in 4Q2020.
